The Bukit used to send people to Canggu for a serious session. Not any more. The best gym in Uluwatu is now a real question with several good answers, from open-air weight floors above the surf to fully equipped functional rooms that run Hyrox on a schedule. This is where to train on the southern tip of Bali, and how to do it well in the heat.
The short version: For serious strength and functional training in Uluwatu, the names worth knowing are Bambu Fitness, Ulu Active, Muscle Beach Club and Raw Gym. Bambu is the most complete floor and runs Hyrox and CrossFit classes. Ulu Active pairs training with the best recovery room on the Bukit. Train early or late to stay ahead of the heat.
Where should you train in Uluwatu?
The best gyms in Uluwatu are Bambu Fitness, Ulu Active, Muscle Beach Club, Raw Gym and 360 Move, spread across Pecatu, Bingin and Ungasan. Between them they cover everything from Olympic lifting platforms to Hyrox classes, boxing, and surf-specific strength. Most sell day passes, class drop-ins and monthly memberships, so you can train for a week or settle in for a season.
A note on how the scene reads. Uluwatu is not Canggu. The gyms here are smaller and quieter, built for people who train because it is part of the day, not for the mirror. That suits the house.
Bambu Fitness
The most complete gym in the Uluwatu area, and the one most people mean when they say the best. Bambu is a large, well-equipped floor near Bingin with distinct zones: an open-plan rig and free weights, an air-conditioned bodybuilding room, Olympic weightlifting platforms and a line of Concept2 machines. The weekly timetable runs from Hyrox and CrossFit to mobility and movement, and recovery is on site: pool, loungers, sauna, ice bath and a health cafe. If you want one gym that does the lot, this is it.
Ulu Active
Ulu Active is the thinking person's choice, a design-led space that treats recovery as seriously as the training. The gym floor is fully equipped and the group classes are good, but the reason to join is the recovery room: steam, sauna, infrared, hot tub and ice baths under one roof, which very few gyms on the island can claim. It sits in the Ungasan cluster and keeps a real community around it.
Muscle Beach Club
A long-standing favourite in Ungasan, semi-open-air, with the relaxed Bukit energy people come to Bali for. Well set up for strength work, functional training and cardio, with dedicated areas for weights, boxing and group classes. Less polished than Bambu, more character.
Raw Gym
For dedicated lifters. Raw keeps professional-grade equipment, squat racks and heavy plates, and points itself squarely at people who want to move real weight without a class timetable getting in the way. Come here to train, not to socialise.
360 Move
The broadest church on the list, and a sensible first stop if you have just arrived and do not yet know the scene. The schedule spans hot pilates, surf-specific strength and mobility, HIIT, Muay Thai, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, spin and more. Good for variety and for training around the surf.

What is Hyrox, and can you do it in Bali?
Yes. Several Uluwatu gyms program Hyrox classes, and in June 2026 the race itself came to Indonesia for the first time. Hyrox is a standardised fitness race: eight one-kilometre runs, each followed by a functional workout station, done in the same order at every event in the world, which is what lets athletes compare times across cities.
The eight stations, in order, are a 1,000m SkiErg, a 50m sled push, a 50m sled pull, 80m of burpee broad jumps, a 1,000m row, a 200m farmers carry, 100m of sandbag lunges and 100 wall balls. It is less about maximal strength than about holding a strong pace while tired, which is exactly the kind of durable, useful fitness that ages well.
The competitive circuit has now reached the region. Hyrox Jakarta ran on 27 and 28 June 2026 at the Nusantara International Convention Exhibition, the first Hyrox race ever held in Indonesia and the opening event of the 26/27 season, drawing athletes from across Southeast Asia. Bali does not yet host its own stage, but the training culture is here: you can prepare for a race, or simply train in the format, at Bambu and a handful of other Bukit gyms.
How do you train well in Bali's heat?
Train at the edges of the day and respect the humidity. The Bukit sits close to the equator, so mornings before nine and evenings after five are the honest windows for anything outdoors or in an open-air gym. Hydrate before you are thirsty, add electrolytes on longer sessions, and give yourself a week to acclimatise before you judge your numbers.

A few specifics that matter here. Open-air gyms are the Bali romance, but for heavy lifting or a hard interval session, an air-conditioned room is not indulgence, it is the difference between a good session and a wilting one. Indoor sports like padel and indoor strength work are weather-independent, which is worth knowing in the wet season from November to March. And recovery does more work in this climate than at home: shade, cold water, salt and a long, slow afternoon are part of the training, not separate from it.
Training on the Bukit, the Azoria way
When the Azoria Fitness Club opens, training sits on the Performance floor beside a full gym, a boxing ring, physiotherapy and a dedicated Hyrox Lab. The idea is simple and a little old-fashioned: athleticism without volume. The body as an instrument, not a project. Strength, conditioning and mobility programmed properly, then a cold plunge and a coffee, rather than a transformation you post about.
That is the house view of movement across the board, from the reformer studio to the way we think about the hours after a hard session. Train seriously, recover properly, then sit down to a long lunch. The Fitness Club and its worlds open in 2027, with padel first from September 2026.
Until then, the Bukit is already a good place to train. Pick the gym that fits the way you like to work, keep an eye on the clock and the sun, and let the afternoon do the rest.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best gym in Uluwatu?
For a complete floor with strength, functional training, Hyrox and recovery under one roof, Bambu Fitness is the usual answer. Ulu Active is the pick if recovery matters as much as the session. Raw Gym suits dedicated lifters, and 360 Move is best for variety and classes.
Can you do Hyrox in Bali?
Yes. Several Uluwatu gyms, Bambu among them, run Hyrox classes and simulation workouts. The race itself reached Indonesia for the first time in Jakarta in June 2026, so training in the format locally then racing regionally is realistic.
How much does a gym cost in Uluwatu?
Most gyms offer day passes, weekly passes, class drop-ins and monthly memberships, so you can pay for a single session or settle in for a season. Prices vary by venue and change often, so confirm the current rate directly before you commit.
When is the best time to train in Bali's heat?
Early morning before nine or the evening after five, when the sun is lower. For heavy or high-intensity work, choose an air-conditioned room, hydrate ahead of thirst, add electrolytes, and allow a week to acclimatise.
Is Uluwatu or Canggu better for fitness?
Canggu has more gyms and a louder scene. Uluwatu is quieter, smaller and increasingly well equipped, better suited to people who want to train seriously without the crowd. For a longer stay on the Bukit, Uluwatu now stands on its own.
Court at six, weights at eight, a plunge, then breakfast. The best training is the kind you can keep doing for twenty years, and the Bukit is finally set up for it.
